Winter Foray

Cross Country Ski/Chaga Foray to Savanna State Forest.

Saturday, March 5 starting at 11:00 am. Meet at the Grand Portage Parking Lot.
Directions: North on Hwy 65 through McGregor and then up to State Park Sign at Hwy 36. Follow 36 into the park.

Equipment needed:
Cross country skis, hatchet and pillow case. (If you do not have hatchet, Lee Moellerman said you can use his.)

Meetings and Events

March 14. MMS Meeting, 490 Hodson Hall. 7:15.

Identity Crisis in the genus Psathyrella. A presentation by Maj Padamsee. Maj is a graduate student in mycology, who is working with our scientific adviser, Dr. David McLaughlin.

March 26. Science Summit at the Science Museum of Minnesota

MMS will join other community based science organizations at a science expo at SMM. We will have our traveling mushroom show on display. The exhibit was created by Dawn Cameron, Maxine Bethke, and Ron Spinosa with funds provided by SMM through a NSF grant. This will be our second year at the Science Summit. Many Science Museum visitors will be visiting our site. We encourage MMS members to volunteer for the event. You will enjoy sharing your enthusiasm for mushrooms with the public!

X April 11. MMS Meeting, 490 Hodson Hall . 7:15 PM.

Dr. Gail Celio: "The Fungi of 'The X-Files', or 'Mulder, There Has To Be a Reasonable Explanation Why an Extra-Terrestrial Volcano-Inhabiting Mushroom Would Be Turning People Into Killers.'” Dr. Celio is working with Dr. Dave McLaughlin on the AFTOL Project (Assembling the Fungal Tree of Life.)
