2005 MMS Meetings, Forays, and Special Events
Events Calendar:
Janurary 10
MMS meeting. 490 Hodson Hall, 7:15pm. Gilled Mushrooms with White Spores.
There are so many white-spored mushrooms! Come and learn how to sort them
out. We will show a video by Dr. Michael Beug, featuring excellent photos
of various species from the genera: Amanita, Lepiota, Hygrophorus, Lactarius
and Russula There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion
following the video.
February
Annual Awards Banquet. [Time and place to be announced.] Join your mushroom
friends (human and fungal) for fun and celebration. Gourmet mushroom dishes
will be served. Awards for outstanding service to our society, including
The Golden Chanterelle Award, will be presented. Winners of the 2004 Photo
Contest will be announced and the best photos from the contest will be
viewed.
March 26
Science Summit at the Science Museum of Minnesota: MMS will join other
community based science organizations at a science expo at SMM. We will
have our traveling mushroom show on display. The exhibit was created by
Dawn Cameron, Maxine Bethke, and Ron Spinosa with funds provided by SMM
through a NSF grant. This will be our second year at the Science Summit.
Many Science Museum visitors will be visiting our site. We encourage MMS
members to volunteer for the event. You will enjoy sharing your enthusiasm
for mushrooms with the public!

SOMA Winter Mushroom Camp Coming Up!
The Sonoma County Mycological Association (SOMA) invites you to the 8th
annual SOMA Winter Mushroom Camp. The Camp will be held on M.L.K. weekend,
January 15-17, 2005, near Occidental in Sonoma County, about one hour
North of San Francisco.
This year, SOMA is very pleased to have Dr. Tom Volk return as our keynote
presenter. In addition to Tom, we will have 3 special guests with us,
including Gary Lincoff, Paul Stamets, and Dr. Jim Trappe.
The Camp, a benefit for SOMA, is full of mushroom forays, specimen tables,
slide shows, and speaker presentations, as well as classes & workshops
on mushroom dyeing, paper-making, cooking, medicine making, photography,
cultivation, truffle hunting, and more. Of course, great wild mushroom
cuisine will be provided by the SOMA culinary group and MycoChef Patrick
Hamilton.
The spacious, modern camp buildings are set amongst 225 acres of oak,
madrone, tan oak, redwood, and Douglas fir. The shared cabins are heated
and are bright, clean, and airy, with hardwood floors and stylish bunks.
Fees: $225. Registration closes on Wed. January 5. Includes lodging,
meals, and all classes & activities. Sunday only fee: $110, includes
all activities & presentations, and dinner feast. To obtain a registration
