2002 Fall Forays

The foray of September 27 at Lake Maria turned out to instead be a foray at the nearby Larson County Park. This was as a result of the picnic and parking area of Lake Maria being used by a large gathering hosted by a utility company for its customers. We spent a couple of hours looking for some good eatables as well as other specimens. About noon we stopped to have lunch and then as we began to identify our finds a rain started and, as there was no shelter available for cover, we decided to terminate our efforts and postpone the identification of our finds until the following Monday evening meeting.

2002 Fall Meetings

At the meeting of September 23, Jim Groth, professor of plant pathology at the University of Minnesota, gave a presentation with slides of his mushroom experiences of 2002.It turned out that his experiences were about the same as those of our members. After the presentation and a good many questions asked of and answered by Jim, we headed for the laboratory to undertake the sorting of mushrooms by their physical characteristics. On the evening meeting of October 21,the club had its annual nomination and election of next year 's officers, viewing of members ' entry slides for the Photo Contest and the nomination and voting for the winner of the 2002 Golden Chanterelle Award. The winners in the Photo Contest Categories and the winner of the Golden Chanterelle will be announced at the annual banquet on February 2,2003. Anna Gerenday decided to take a well-deserved break for a while from club responsibilities. Fortunately, Patty Bellino volunteered to take her place as Corresponding Secretary. In addition, I appointed Glen Creuziger to serve in one of the Board Member At-Large positions. We congratulate both Patty and Glen on their new leadership positions with the MMS and for their much-appreciated willingness to help with the management of the club.
